Seems the humming<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">bird has mastered the art of <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">kissing joy<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">; it is the practice of the light touch. As it navigates its world, the hummingbird is touching but not holding onto the <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>sweetness<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> or the <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>non-sweetness<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> of life<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In my work helping anxious children help themselves calm down, I find it is their<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">perception of the event in their lives that causes most distress. They are not realizing <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">they are the ones who assign meaning to all <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">events. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Here<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2019<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">s an example: Katie explains, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">this bad thing happened at school<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2014 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">everyone keeps looking at me and saying I look sad, am I ok?<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The essential ingredient for tapping into our inner resources is to understand we always<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">have a choice about how we label the events. Our own mind can heal or hurt us; awareness is the path to manage our ocean of emotion. Awareness is being present without labeling, criticizing, or judging. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The most common reaction to the good things that happen in life is to try to hold on,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">hold on tighter, making every effort to have that good stay and wall out the bad stuff.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Try as we may, we don<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2019<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">t want anything bad to happen to us; whatever <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">bad<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">is! And-<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">if that bad thing does happen, we<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2019<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">ll say: <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">This is a very bad, horrible, terrible thing!<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Rather than, suspending judgement and saying to yourself: <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">This is interesting&#8230;could be bad, could be good.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In the teaching tale, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Zen Shorts: The Farmer<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2019<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"de-DE\"><i>s Luck<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">, the story reveals the assumptions<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">of what the neighbors call <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">bad luck<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">or <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">good luck<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">turns out to be the opposite. Through various experiences, the farmer resists the temptation to agree with his neighbors<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2019 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">opinions. For example, his son falls off a horse and breaks his leg, everyone says, that<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u2019<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">s too bad, bad luck! But, in fact, a few days later when the soldiers come to their village to take able-bodied young men off to war, his son is passed over because he has a broken leg!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Can we be both present to the experiences of our lives while, at the same time, being non-judgmental, accepting and curious?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Can we learn to see them, be with the experience without trying to push it away? Can we allow ourselves to feel difficult feelings, rest in it and be?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">And if it is a happy, welcomed event, can you learn that <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">kissing joy<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">as she flies by is a wonderful way to play with your imagination, tapping your inner resources in order to be present, notice, enjoy it but not become attached to it? Kiss it and let it go.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">And then can you practice, with this same awareness, to be present and notice when something seems awful? Can you practice watching your feelings of sadness without getting lost in them?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Like gathering, collecting all life experiences, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>noticing the contrast<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> like the many shades of green in nature\u2019s landscape?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Say to yourself: <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">As I use all my senses to take note and savor,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">I am present and open to all the feelings in my life.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The practice of <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">kissing joy<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">is an opportunity to become aware of how you can direct your mind to focus- without judging, without making a strong, negative<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> opinion; <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">but rather, just noticing and collecting.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Making a collecting basket, is a tangible way to practice this idea and internalize it for yourself and your child. Say to yourself, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Today, as I am filling my basket with the little things in life<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2014 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">good or bad, happy or sad. I am noticing and collecting with awareness, gentleness and gratitude.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">So fill your basket, as you expand your awareness. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Say to yourself; <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201c <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">I<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2019<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">m feeling the warm breeze on my face or <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">I<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2019<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">m hearing a song that makes me cry<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Imagine <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">put<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">ting it all in your basket for the day.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Throughout your day, you may want to place in your basket objects like a special photograph or the penny you found on the ground.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">At the end of your day, the contents can be taken out and reflected upon as a form of <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">awareness practice. Be gentle with yourself.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Then you can begin all over again the next day. Empty out the contents; let go of the previous day to make room for the new, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>the now,<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> of today.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">As in the ancient mediative tradition, keep your basket empty. When you do, it becomes a practice of taking in, breathing, watching, and recognizing the every day passing <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">events&#8211;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">like<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> \u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">kissing joy<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> lightly, not tightly!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">As joy flies by as you<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span
