{"id":1187,"date":"2016-08-28T14:14:57","date_gmt":"2016-08-28T14:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drroxannedaleo.com\/roxie\/?p=1187"},"modified":"2017-09-21T15:01:16","modified_gmt":"2017-09-21T15:01:16","slug":"embrace-the-magic-of-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drroxannedaleo.com\/roxie\/embrace-the-magic-of-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Embrace the Magic of Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>second key to stress-hardiness is the ability to live in the present moment<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">; not living in the past or the future. Those who live in the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>past<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> have a tendency to say things like <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>\u201c<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>if only<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">I hadn<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">t done this or that, I wouldn<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">t have this problem. Other times, you might find yourself worried about the future which sounds like <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">what if<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201d <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">all these things happen to me, then what?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Oh no! I<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ll really be in trouble.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The following are ways you can cultivate present moment awareness:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Model for your child a mindset of being present FULLY. Put away the cell phone and look into each others eyes when you speak. Play a game of sixth sensory knowing with your child. Remind them that our ancestors had to develop a keen sense of perception to the world around them for survival. In our modern age, we don\u2019t have saber tooth tigers who threaten our safety, but we do need our kids to have \u201csituational awareness\u201d. What I mean, is that, more often than not, our children are walking around with there heads in their mobile devices. Kids have become less and less concerned about their immediate surroundings. Most of the time they may be safe but we are not teaching them the art of discernment which develops their keen sense of potential threats that exist. As a rule, routinely, ask your child to shut off her\/his phone and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>pay attention.<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> With your eyes and ears wide open- watch and breathe for just a moment. Ask them what they perceive?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Next, ask your child to close her eyes and see if she can \u201cfeel\u201d or perceive someone entering her personal space. Ask her to tell you how close or far you are standing from them. Keep practicing until your child\u2019s accuracy increases.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">When your child is apprehensive about upcoming events, try this. Remind your child that <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>in the present moment,<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">nothing bad has happened yet. In this moment, all is well. Mentally, stop the \u201crailroad train of never-ending worry thoughts\u201d by choosing to stay in the present. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Awful-izing<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the worst possible outcome is not using emotional intelligence. Staying present to exactly what is happening is wise. Staying present and open to all of our emotions is a practice of mindfulness, self care and patience. Instead of joining your child in their worry thought, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>you be calm<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and send that calm energy out. Your child feels your emotions. To help yourself in the cultivation of calmness, use this phrase with your child: \u201cYou have a special way of landing on your feet, even when you worry about things that could go wrong! So stay focused on this moment. In this moment, all is well.\u201d You keep directing your child\u2019s focus by saying: \u201cRemember,(___say your child\u2019s name), you have what it takes to do what it takes to get the job done! But for now, you are here with me and you are safe.\u201d Say to your child: \u201cTake a deep breathe\u2026be still\u2026feel your inner self be still\u2026breathe\u2026feel the peace within you in this magic moment of now. It is always available, even though you may go throughout your day out of touch with your peace, you can come back to it right now\u2026breathe\u2026rest\u2026turn your attention away from the day and bring your attention inward to your breathing\u2026breathe\u2026be still in this magic moment of now.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Use the bell of awareness for practice. Today, most mobile devices have bell tones you can set whenever you like. Set the bell tone to ring every hour. When the bell rings, let it be a reminder to be here, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>now.<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Then, breathe, let go of worry, say: \u201call is well in this moment; I am safe; I am calm.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">5. Once again, teaching tales come to the rescue!
